Racquetball on Sanibel

Staying active on Sanibel is never a challenge, and when you stay with us on this beautiful island you’re provided premier access to Sanibel Island’s only public racquetball club. Other than being the most pet friendly resort on Sanibel Island, our racquetball facilities make our property a highly desirable destination for visitors to Sanibel.

Located just behind our office on the westerly side of our lush, tropical property sits our racquetball court. Enjoy a morning on the sand and the afternoon practicing your swing, the court is located steps from both the Gulf of Mexico and your private Sanibel Island condo. From professionals to amateurs, everyone is invited to give racquetball a try!

If you are unfamiliar with racquetball, racquetball is considered a “racquet sport” and is played with a hollow rubber ball on an indoor or in our case, outdoor court. The creator of the sport, Joseph Sobek invented the modern version of the sport in 1950 in New Britain, Connecticut by adding a stringed racquet to paddleball with the aim of increasing velocity and control. You may be surprised to learn that unlike tennis and pickleball, there is no net to hit the ball over and there is also no out of bounds area at the bottom of the front wall to hit the ball above.

Teams of two players (singles) · three players (cutthroat) · four players (doubles) are traditionally allowed during a game of racquetball. Bring your own equipment or borrow some of ours (first come first served).

Also, expect to burn up to 360 calories per hour during your racquetball game on Sanibel. Now you can justify that extra margarita at sunset!

We invite you (and your pets) to join us at Signal Inn anytime of the year, the weather is always perfect for beach combing, sandcastle building, lanai relaxing and… racquetball!
